With lessons learned from July, it's time once again to set some goals.
First, some accountability: I have a reminder setup in my calendar to update the blog weekly. That's to keep us on track!
Second, what habits do I still need to cultivate from last challenge? Exercise, for one. Creativity. And healthy eating-- Those are the three areas I'm focusing on this month.
Luckily, I have corresponding goals this month for those three areas. There's a 5k at the end of the month--a natural shoe-in for the exercise goal. I have three months to finish knitting two hats and an undecided third present for Christmas-- thus a knit hat is on my goals for creativity this month. As for healthy eating, I've been raiding the work cafeteria for meals due to illness and moving in September. No more! Homemade lunches and breakfasts for October.
I also am attempting to recover our couch and chairs by making new box cushions for them. I want to finish that for the holidays.
So here's the goals list for October:

So here's the goals list for October:
- Couch to 5K-- with a faster run speed as the goal!
- Homemade meals for work every day. (No cheating with the free pizza on Fridays, either!)
- Finish a knitted hat.
- Upholster the couch and chair.
- Quit Reddit.
Wait, a mysterious 5th goal snuck in there! Why quit Reddit?
I don't do much social media--I have no Facebook account, and my Twitter account solely exists to tweet local roadway and fire news at me. I find I spend most of my internet time on Reddit.
The story I tell myself goes something like this:
Reddit is useful! I can search to see how other people are doing things and pick the best way to do things! And I get great ideas from the hobby subreddits!
The reality goes something like this:
Urg, /r/politics really got me riled up! Now I'm going to go check /r/programming... man, there is a lot of signal to noise there. There's some good ideas in the hobby subreddits, but not better than I can find on dedicated blogs. Oh, now I really need to spend money thanks to being convinced by guerrilla marketers on /r/BuyItForLife and /r/fountainpens...
In short, Reddit's been a net negative in my life for a while now. And even that might be ok...if I wasn't spending hours on their site. Reddit's probably the majority of my internet usage. In fact, Reddit cost me $40 whilst moving, since I paid for data while we were moving. $40 worth of Reddit.
So it's time to part ways with that social media too, and leave more time for making mistakes (someone on the internet might have a better solution! So what?!)
